In Battlefield 3 there are two types of planes you can fly, the Frogfoot and the Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt is an American plane while the Frogfoot is a Russian plane. The Frogfoot is on the defensive side and the Thunderbolt is the offensive side. There are various jet flying tips you can use. One tip is the controls are inverted. Another jet flying tip is if some one is on your tail do many turns to try and break off of him. If you turn around enough you can eventually slow down your plane and the enemy plane will fly right by you. This will put you on his six oclock position and give you the perfect opprotunity to turn the tables and take him out of the sky.

If you have flares and you see a lock sign at the top of your reticile press right bumper to use the flares it will take awhile for the lock sign to go away, so don't worry if the lock sign is there for awhile. Another plane flying tip is if you see a helicopter go far out of bounds and turn around, so that you have time to find him, the switch to your heatseekers, lock on and fire away. On the other hand if you see a tank you will have to use the main gun. You should wait until you get close enough that you can see it, so you don't waste your bullets. I would recommend talking to your team before the game so they actually highlight the tanks, helicopters, jeeps, and other jets. If there is nothing in the air or highlighted then just go stafe runs over the objectives. When you are tailing a plane try to be one step ahead of him. If the other plane has flares and you are locking onto him and he uses them, just swicth to your main gun and shoot him. Another begginers plane flying tip is if you don't have heatseeking missiles, try to shoot infront of him when he takes hard turn or any turn.

Also when you enter into the plane be sure to talk to your teammates and let them know you are in it. They can really help you out when your flying the jet by selecting targets. This will help you locate enemy tanks, planes, and helicopters which you can proceed to strafe to kill. A great way to strafe is to fly extremely high up into the sky. You should then make a downward turn towards the ground. This will give you ample time to use your minigun to destroy the enemy vehicles. Be sure to use your left trigger button to slow your plane down as much as possible as a slow plane is much easier to use.

Another battlefield 3 jet flying tactic is to fly as low to the ground as possible. The planes in battlefield 3 are camouflaged for a reason. If you are flying low to the ground your plane will be almost impossible to pick out against the background of the foliage on the ground. Also if your plane is high up in the air it is very easy to pick out because it is easy to pickout against the background of the sky.

Winning any dogfight in battlefield 3 has a lot of skill and luck invovled. If you see the enemy plane first your chances of killing it are increased greatly. You must also be proficient as making tight turns and using them to put yourself in a position to gun down the enemy.

Of course the best battlefield plane flying tip is to actualy fly the planes as much as possible. You can do this by just waiting at the respawn screen until the planes become available for use. You won't be much help to your team but if you become a proficient flyer you will be a great asset at taking out enemy armor and aircraft.
